Mental Health – Back to Basics

In order to maintain our mental health, we need to simplify life and get back to basics. The underlying components to anyone’s healthy mental state is simple.

· Sleep – Get your sleep. Whether it is 8 or 10 hours (depending on your age), the right amount of sleep sets the stage for a productive, positive and healthy day.

· Eat right – Avoid processed foods. Eating is just as important as sleep for needed energy, mental acuity, and well-being. “Food is your health-care, healthcare is your sick-care.”

· Drink plenty of water – Hydration keeps your body going, reduces headaches, improves overall health and mental states.

· Exercise – Physical health improves mental health. Walking, as simple as it is, can improve your mood and reduce anxiety. Get physical.

· Socialize – Humans need and require interaction. There are many ways to interact, whether it is over the phone, Skype, facetime, in-person (as you feel comfortable and properly distanced)…reach out to friends and family. TALK
